The Award for Outstanding Contributions to Postbaccalaureate, Graduate, and Professional Education (Graduate-Professional Award) was established in 1999 to recognize contributions to postbaccalaureate, graduate, and professional education. There will be an awards ceremony at the McNamara Alumni Center on Tuesday, April 26 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
Since 1998-1999, the University of Minnesota has recognized a select group of faculty members for their outstanding contributions to postbaccalaureate, graduate, and/or professional education. This honor is awarded annually to exceptional candidates nominated by their colleges in their quest to identify excellence in postbaccalaureate, graduate, and/or professional education. Recipients are chosen for excellence in instruction; involvement in students’ research, scholarship, and professional development; development of instructional programs; and advising and mentoring of students. In addition to honoring individual faculty members, the award contributes to the improvement of postbaccalaureate, graduate, and professional education at the University by publicizing their work to serve as resources to the whole faculty.
2016 Award Recipient
Bryce A. Binstadt, Pediatrics, Medical School
Bryce Binstadt, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology. He excels in teaching across the span of his expertise, from basic immunology to the science and art of clinical medicine. Currently named as a "Top Doctor" by the Mpls. St.Paul Magazine Dr. Binstadt cares for children with arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, and related rheumatologic disorders. He is also the founder and Director of the department’s Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship Training program and the Assistant Director of the Pediatric Residency Program. By combining his care of patients with work in his NIH-funded laboratory, in the University of Minnesota's Center for Immunology Dr. Binstadt is focused on understanding the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases with particular emphasis on immune-mediated cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Binstadt received his MD degree from Mayo Medical School and his PhD in Immunology from Mayo Graduate School in Rochester, MN. As a Distinguished University Teaching Professor Dr. Binstadt continues to nurture the careers of numerous graduate and medical students, postdoctoral trainees, and clinical fellows at the University of Minnesota and across the nation. He serves as the Associate Director of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MD/PhD).
