Kris Hogquist – AHC Academy of Excellence in Health Research

Kris Hogquist was inducted into the AHC Academy of Excellence in Health Research in 2015. Her commemorative plaque is displayed on the wall in the PWB/Moos concourse. The citation reads: "Kristin Hogquist is widely recognized by the international scientific community for her many important contributions in the field of immunology. Dr. Bryce Binstadt has been selected to receive the University of Minnesota Outstanding Contributions to Postbaccalaureate, Graduate, and Professional Education Award. The Award for Outstanding Contributions to Postbaccalaureate, Graduate, and Professional Education was established in 1999 to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to postbaccalaureate, graduate, and professional education at the University. The 2W antigen was developed by co-author James Moon, PhD, of Harvard Medical School, and Marc K. Jenkins, PhD, of the University of Minnesota. Using this "model antigen," researchers at UCSF, led by Tiffany C. Scharschmidt, MD, were able to precisely monitor the immune response to the modified bacterium Staphylococcus epidermidis, which they named Epi-2W. Read more about the study

Yoji Shimizu and Jill Siegfried from the Department of Pharmacology have received NIH R25 funding for a five-year education program titled Cancer Research, Education, and Training Experience (CREATE). Read more about the program

Dr. Michael Farrar’s paper, The Molecular Cell Biology of Interferon-Ƴ and Its Receptor, is one of the inaugural articles recognized on the Wall of Scholarship. The Wall highlights high-impact publications by faculty who are first or last authors and whose work has been cited over 1,000 times, as measured by two of three major citation indices. The University of Minnesota Medical School has been awarded a five-year National Research Service Award (T35) Research Training Grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This funding supports the Medical Student Summer Research Program, providing opportunities for students to engage in hands-on biomedical research. Read more about the program

In the December 2015 issue of Nature Reviews Immunology, Dr. Ron Germain highlights two seminal papers from Dr. Marc Jenkins and colleagues over the past 25 years that introduced innovative techniques for analyzing the T cell repertoire. Read more about these studies

Shimizu recognized by National Association of MD-PhD Programs
