The Hogquist Lab

Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the lab study the positive and negative selection of T cells in the thymus and investigate how persistent viral infections shape the immune system outside of the thymus.

Effective immune responses depend on the proper development and function of T cells. The key characteristics that allow T cells to respond to pathogens while avoiding damage to healthy tissues are established during development in the thymus, an organ specialized for T-lymphocyte development.

Our research focuses on the molecular mechanisms that govern these processes, including how T cells are selected during thymic development and how immune responses are influenced by chronic viral infection in peripheral tissues.
